From time to time, a criminal case ends with a wrongful conviction or sentence – there might not have been a crime at all, the wrong person might have been convicted, or the process might have failed so significantly that the conviction is unsafe.
At the CCRC we look at around 1400 applications a year from convicted people who think something went wrong in their case. It is our job to review the case and find out whether there is some new information, evidence or argument that might lead to a successful appeal. A case review can take anything from a matter of hours to over a year, depending on the issues, complexity, and availability of materials. Most of our work relates to cases at the most serious end of the criminal spectrum.
With the CCRC having recently undergone an IT transformation programme and with the introduction of remote working, the HR team is continuing to develop the support it offers with the ongoing roll out and development of our new HR system, iTrent. With a focus on supporting our staff, becoming an employer of choice and plans to take forward our recruitment and the development opportunities we offer our staff, this is a great time to join our team in this new role.
The HR Manager will report to the Head of HR and will be responsible for overseeing our approach to recruitment and lead on advice and support to staff and managers on employee relations issues as well as developing career pathways for our staff.
Although our office is based in central Birmingham, this role is homebased, using the latest IT to stay connected with colleagues, and attending the office only when necessary.
The CCRC is committed to equality and to being an inclusive organisation.
We welcome people who will bring diversity of thought and provide constructive challenge. We encourage applications from Black, Asian and Ethnic Minority candidates and from individuals from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. We also welcome applications from candidates in Wales and Northern Ireland to better reflect our jurisdiction.
If this sounds like the organisation and the role for you, we look forward to receiving your application.
